Civ3 Cross-Platform Editor Guide

Welcome to the guide to the Civ3 cross platform editor help. You can navigate the help as you would a website. To view websites mentioned here, copy the URL into your favorite browser. Getting the Editor Up and Running

System Requirements

The only two requirements are a 1024x768 or higher resolution monitor (this is also the minimum for Civ3), and a system that can support Java 1.8. Such systems include:

It is recommended that you use Oracle's Java versions. Other versions may work, but will not be supported. You can find download links at the editor thread link above.

Setup

Once you have downloaded the editor and unzipped the .zip file, simply double-click on the launcher.jar file, and the editor will start up. On 32-bit Windows, the editor will attempt to auto-detect your Civ3 install location. Failing this, and on other operating systems, you will be asked to select your Civilization III install folder, so that the editor will be able to load images and set your default file open/save folder. You will only be asked to do this the first time you run the program, but you may change these settings from within the program later.

Troubleshooting

On some systems, double-clicking a JAR file doesn't start it. If this occurs and you are using Windows, double-click on start.bat instead. If you are still running into difficulty, please consult the forum thread.

Windows Vista or later with User Account Control (UAC) enabled and Civ3 installed in protected folders (such as C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files (x86) may deny you the ability to open BIQs with the editor. The editor will attempt to warn you if this happens. There are three remedies:
